Encouraging Healthy Lifestyles in Communities Across America

The AMA Alliance raises funds to support vital grassroots efforts to promote healthy lifestyles education and awareness throughout the United States.

Grants made in 2009 support programs addressing the issue of healthy lifestyles in these three areas:
Nutrition and Physical Fitness
Alcohol, substance abuse and smoking prevention
Violence Prevention (Domestic Violence, Suicide Prevention, Internet Safety, Bullying)

Three types of organizations are eligible to apply:
• Organizations with annual operating budgets of $1 million or less; or
• New organizations begun in the last 5 years; or
• Established organizations starting a new service or expanding a current service to an underserved population

Dolores Chandra Fund for Better Health Grants

These special grants are awarded to medical student and resident affiliated groups and follow the same guidelines and application process as Fund for Better Health grants. Dolores Chandra passed away in 2005 and donations were accepted in her memory. She was recognized as a steadfast supporter of the medical community and held many leadership positions in the AMA Alliance and AMA Foundation, including service on the national Boards of both groups.

Funding

A maximum of $5,000 will be distributed to each Fund for Better Health grant recipient.

Application Deadline

Applications must be received at the AMA Foundation on or before July 15, 2009.
