Leadership Development Conference

What is the conference?

The Leadership or Membership Development Conference, is a two-and-a-half day networking and team-building opportunity designed to boost membership growth and service throughout the country in support of health advocacy initiatives, health promotion and fundraising for medicine’s future. The AMA Alliance organizes the meeting twice a year (in October and February) to prepare members for leadership in the largest organization for the family of medicine.

Who Attends?

All participants must be AMA Alliance members. The conference generally attracts county and state Alliance leaders such as presidents, presidents-elect, membership chairs and newly nominated officers. National Alliance leaders are also on hand throughout the meeting to answer questions, lead discussions and brainstorm ideas. To encourage resident physician and medical student spouse leaders to attend, the AMA Alliance waives their registration fees. Once county and state leaders spots are filled, any Alliance member can register for the conference at his or her own expense.

How does it work?

The program content is a blend of General Sessions and Community Action and Professional Skills Programs.

What is the purpose?

To introduce you to the resources and services available from the AMA Alliance. Program area roundtables will show you how many unique resources the AMA Alliance provides for anti-violence programming, health promotion, medical family support, legislative advocacy, membership development and fund-raising for the AMA Foundation. Also, the AMA Alliance Publications and Member Service Center is the perfect place to peruse our wide range of conflict resolution and medical family resources.

To teach you about community action initiatives important to the AMA Alliance, such as reducing bullying in our schools, encouraging Americans to lead healthier lifestyles and promoting health literacy. The conference also enhances your professional skills, with sessions on membership development, presentation techniques and strategic planning for state Alliances.

To introduce you to each other. The exhibits set up in the French Room at the Drake Hotel are an easy way to see what's happening in Alliances across the country. A dinner reception on Sunday night is perfect for mingling and a special networking lunch seats members from different Alliances together.
