AMA Alliance Announces New Podcast on Prescription Drug Misuse
To combat the growing problem of prescription drug misuse by youths in the U.S. the AMA Alliance interviewed Saul Levin, M.D., the Vice President of Science, Medicine and Public Health at the American Medical Association. In the podcast, Dr. Levin discusses what we all need to know about the medications frequently found in our own homes and the dangers these prescription drugs may pose to experimental youth.

AMA Alliance Welcomes New Officers
The Board of Directors of the AMA Alliance announces the nomination and election of Jeanie Owen of Omaha , NE as Treasurer and Barbara Savage of Apex, NC as a Director. The elections were necessary due to the death of John Lovin, Treasurer and the resignation of Gail Kacich, Director.

American Medical Association Alliance Elects New Board
The American Medical Association (AMA) Alliance elected new board officers at its Annual Meeting held June 13-15 in Chicago. Nancy Kyler, Virginia, 2008-2009 president-elect, succeeded Sandi Frost as 2009-2010 president of the AMA Alliance. Kyler's one-year term began on June 15, 2009, the close of the Annual Meeting, as do the terms of the other new board officers.

Nancy Kyler Installed as President of American Medical Association Alliance
Nancy Kyler was installed as 2009-2010 President of the American Medical Association (AMA) Alliance at its Annual Meeting held June 13-15 in Chicago. Her one-year term began on June 15, 2009, at the close of the Annual Meeting. Kyler succeeded Sandi Frost, 2008-2009 president.

Susan Todd Elected President-Elect of American Medical Association Alliance
Susan Todd was elected to serve as 2009-2010 President-elect of the American Medical Association (AMA) Alliance. Todd was elected at the AMA Alliance's Annual Meeting held June 13-15 in Chicago. Her one-year term began on June 15, 2009, at the close of the Annual Meeting. Todd succeeded Nancy Kyler, 2008-2009 president-elect.

Marilyn Kezirian Elected Secretary of American Medical Association Alliance
Marilyn Kezirian was elected to serve as 2009-2010 Secretary of the American Medical Association (AMA) Alliance. Kezirian was elected at the AMA Alliance's Annual Meeting held June 13-15 in Chicago. Her one-year term began on June 15, 2009, at the close of the Annual Meeting. Kezirian succeeded Kathy Lariviere, 2008-2009 Secretary.

Women's Health: Gender-Based Medicine, the cover story in the latest issue of Connections, the magazine of the American Medical Association Alliance (AMAA) examines the foundation of women's health research, life stages of women, what's known and not known about women's health, the latest research findings making news, advice for finding the right physician and how to take a proactive approach toward women's health.

AMA Alliance Wows Visitors with Redesigned Web Site
The Alliance has been working on Phase II of the Web site redesign and new navigation system based on reader comments and suggestions. The main aim of the reorganization and redesign was to make the Web site organization and navigation more intuitive and more reflective of where Alliance members and other visitors would expect to find content. In addition, a variety of new features and topics --- as result of what users told the organization they would like to see on the site --- have been added.

U.S. Adults Fear For Children's Safety
A survey conducted for the American Medical Association Alliance, the organization of physician spouses nationwide, asked how people viewed the safety of children.

"It's obvious the old ways aren't working and new efforts are needed," Sandi Frost, president of the organization sponsoring the survey research, the American Medical Association Alliance. "It's a clear call for all of us to get more involved."

AMA Alliance Urges IOM to Take Stronger Stance Against Smoking in Youth-Rated Movies
In a statement released May 24, the AMAA issued an appeal to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to reconsider its stance in a recent report that urges the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to "consider the use of tobacco in the movies as a factor in assigning mature film ratings," because it does not directly prevent youth exposure to film smoking.

In a May 11th press release the AMA Alliance responded to the MPAA's non-committal pledge to "consider" changing youth-rated movies that involved smoking.
