Wholesome eating is the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle. The percent of overweight youth, ages 6 to 11 years, increased from 4 percent in 1965 to almost 20 percent in 2004. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), youth who are overweight have been found to have risk factors for heart disease, Type II diabetes, sleep apnea, poor self-esteem and social discrimination.
