The AMA Alliance creates and distributes nearly 50,000 SAVE puzzles to more than 200 communities nationwide, made possible by a grant from the AMA Foundation.
2001
"I Can Handle Bullies" activity book is launched by the AMA Alliance; after the attacks on Sept. 11, the AMA Alliance donated 10 percent of proceeds from SAVE materials to the relief effort, and Alliance members collectively raise more than $7,000 for the people who suffered from the disasters.
2002
SAVE continues to focus on bullying. The AMA Alliance creates guidelines for "bully-free schools" and a Talk to Your Kids About Bullying bookmark.
2003
On SAVE Today, the SAVE program received recognition on NBC's "Today Show" and garnered several state proclamations; 2003-04 AMA Alliance President Gay Bowman and Health Promotion Chair Carolyn Plested help launch the government's "Take a Stand. Lend a Hand. Stop Bullying Now!" campaign.
2004
The SAVE program celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year; Alliances are celebrating SAVE Today, which falls on Oct. 13, in a variety of ways, such as launching canned food drives, holding essay contests for children on the importance of preventing violence and giving out SAVE bookmarks on Halloween. Leadership Confluence is renamed Leadership Development Conference.
2005
Executive Director Hazel J. Lewis retires after 53 years of service to the Alliance.
2006
The Alliance received a $500,000 grant from the American Legacy Foundation in conjunction with its Screen Out! program. The mission of this program is to give all movies which depict smoking an "R" rating.
2008
The AMA Alliance Day at the Capitol draws over 140 members from 28 states to Washington, D.C. for a one day, information packed, advocacy/educational session.
