KMSA Members Solicit Support for Breast Cancer Awareness
Members of the Kansas Medical Society Alliance (KMSA) are working hard to ensure that the state of Kansas is among the few states with a license plate dedicated to Breast Cancer awareness. Kansas senator Sen. Barbara Allen, R-Overland Park, a breast cancer survivor, introduced a bill this month to create specialized Kansas license plates to raise money for research and education at the Kansas University (KU) Cancer Center.
Under the bill, $50 of the $85.50 cost of each license plate will go to the Kansas University Cancer Center to help statewide coordination of cancer education and outreach. Under the Kansas Department of Revenue, $10,000 must be provided prior to authorization of any distinctive license plate.
Letters will be sent out to Kansans asking them to support Breast Cancer research and be "Driven to Cure". The members of the KMSA are working to get 500 signatures of individuals that will commit to purchasing a tag. Once this is accomplished and the sponsorship funds are raised, the Kansas Department of Revenue will produce the plates.
The group is planning to set up a booth at the Kansas Medical Society Annual Session, in Topeka the first week in May, where they will pass out the flyers for people to sign.
