Montgomery-Autauga-Elmore Medical Alliance
With the fast paced world we live in and constant on-the-go activities, little time is left for healthy meals and daily exercise. This is why the Montgomery-Autauga-Elmore Medical Alliance is working to change the growing problem of childhood obesity one student at a time. Over the past year, members of the SAVE/Health Projects committee have visited various schools in Montgomery, Alabama teaching them how to make healthy food choices, read labels, understand the food pyramid and stay active.
In the 30-40 minute presentation geared towards elementary school aged students, discussions and activities demonstrate various ways to exercise, showcase the difference between healthy and unhealthy snacks, while explaining the dangers such health issues as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease.
"We really want the students to understand the importance of eating healthy and staying active for the sake of their health," said Anita Williamson, SAVE/Health Projects Chariperson. "We stress the need to balance their daily diet with daily exercise.
