2008 Award Winners


The 2008 AMA Alliance award winners were recognized during the Alliance Annual Meeting, June 15-17, 2008, for their commitment in the areas of legislative advocacy, health promotion, membership and fundraising. Here is a complete list of awards and winners:

In 2006, the Membership Advisory Committee created the Membership Development Project (MDP) Awards to recognize excellence in the membership development process: recruitment, retention and the organization of new state, county and MSS/RPS Alliances across the country.

The 2008 MDP award winners are:

     Membership Development Initiative - presented to an Alliance for their
     development and implementation of a creative plan or strategy to support one
     of the three primary foundations of membership growth and development:
     retention, recruitment of new members or the organization of new Alliances.
          •North Mississippi Resident Physician Spouses Alliance

     Best Collaborative Project - presented to an Alliance that conducted
     an outstanding collaborative membership project with their respective medical 
     society.
          •Sangamon County Medical Society Alliance (IL)

     Alliance Image Award - presented to an Alliance for recognition of an 
     outstanding media/marketing campaign that improves the AMA Alliance's overall
     image.
          •Summit County Medical Alliance (OH)

The AMA Alliance Health Awareness Promotion Awards were established in 1989 to recognize excellence in the health promotion programs and projects of county Alliances and RPS/MSS groups throughout the nation.

The 2008 HAP award winners are:

     Community Service
          •"Vaccinate Before You Graduate"- Taylor-Jones-Haskell County Medical 
          Association Alliance, Abilene, Texas 
          •"Living to See Beyond Graduation and Beyond - Priceless, Alcohol Awareness
          Program"- Northeast Mississippi Medical Society Alliance, Tupelo, Mississippi

     Fundraising
          •"Help Fill the Need" - Lancaster County Medical Alliance, Lincoln, Nebraska     

The AMA Alliance Legislative Education Awareness Promotion (LEAP) Award, initiated in 2002, recognizes excellence in the legislative education and awareness programs and projects of state, county and RP/MSS Alliances throughout the country.

The 2008 LEAP Award winners are:

          •Shaken Baby Syndrome Education Law Initiative - South Carolina Medical

     County Award
          •Mark Shelton Grassroots Campaign - Tarrant County Medical Society Alliance

The Prestige Awards are awarded based on the number of paid national memberships received by March 31, 2008.

     The state categories: The highest percentage increase of
          •A state with 1 to 200 members - (no winner)
          •A state with 201 to 800 members - Oregon Medical Association Alliance
          •A state with 801 members or more - California Medical Association Alliance

     The county categories: The highest percentage increase of
          •A county with 1 to 75 members - San Diego County Medical Society Alliance
          •A county with 76 to 150 members - Floyd-Polk-Chattooga Medical Society 
           Alliance (GA)
          •A county with 151 members or more - Los Angeles County Medical 
           Association Alliance

          •Highest numeric increase in RPS - Louisiana State Medical Society Alliance
          •Highest percentage increase in RPS - South Dakota State Medical 
           Association
          •Highest numeric increase in MSS - Mississippi State Medical Association
           Alliance
          •Highest percentage increase in MSS - Illinois State Medical Association
           Alliance
