What is the AMA Alliance Federation?

The American Medical Association Alliance is the largest organization representing the family of medicine in the United States. The Alliance federation of physicians and physicians' spouses represents all stages of the medical lifestyle, from training years to retirement. The Alliance consists of three component levels that work together:

County Alliances are the grassroots level where most of the "hands-on" work is done for fund-raising for the AMA Foundation, health projects and legislative advocacy.
State Alliances provide ideas for local Alliances, coordinate efforts between county Alliances and provide leadership training for local members.
The National Alliance provides support for both the county and state Alliances, ties together the county and state networks and serves as a national voice for issues that concern the family of medicine. The National Alliance also provides curriculum and resource for health and legislative projects, develops children's activity books, and publications on issues such as conflict resolution and healthy lifestyles and physical fitness and is a liaison between various state and national legislative activities and provides leadership and personal development training.

It takes the strength and support of a national membership organization like the AMA Alliance to speak out on the issues affecting the family of medicine today. Following the AMA's legislative agenda, Alliance members communicate with local, state, and federal legislators to give them an accurate picture of how health care issues really affect the practice of medicine and patients.

The federation works best when every Alliance member belongs to their county, state and national Alliances. When offering membership to potential members, give them the federated or unified dues amount (county, state, and national). Without this unanimous support from our members, the Alliance cannot continue to make the strides in public health initiatives, medical school support, and legislative advocacy.
