2010 AMA Foundation Circle of Champions: Never Too Early to Join

We are truly grateful to the 150 physicians and other supporters who joined our Circle of Champions in 2009.  Each became a member of this unique donor society by contributing an unrestricted gift of $1000 or more.

Later this month, you will hear from Dr. Barney Maynard, president-elect of the AMA Foundation, about the importance of the Circle of Champions.  We hope you will respond by renewing your annual commitment or making a first-time gift.  Simply choose your gift option and return the reply card that you receive.  We'll take care of the rest.

If you would like to donate now, you can use our online donation form or contact the AMA Foundation via phone at (312) 464-4200.

As a Circle of Champions donor, you will be invited to the AMA Foundation reception at the AMA Annual Meeting in June, and you will be listed with your fellow members in the AMA Foundation annual report.  You will also receive special recognition in AMA Foundation newsletters and at the AMA Annual and Interim meetings.

The Circle of Champions lapel pin is one that we hope you will wear proudly, knowing that the greatest reward for your gift is the opportunity to join your philanthropy with that of other AMA physicians and supporters to advance medical education, research, and health care for all.

Zaven S. Ayanian, MD, internist, Parker Family Health Center, Red Bank, N.J.

As the second physician volunteer to be recruited to launch the Parker Family Health Center in 2000, Zaven Ayanian, MD, has been there from the beginning.  The free clinic evolved from a walk-in clinic open two nights a week into a six-day-a-week comprehensive health care source that provides over 10,000 patient visits annually.

Robert G. Kendall, MD, neurosurgeon, Our Health, Inc., Winchester, Va.

Robert Kendall, MD, is the catalyst behind Our Health, Inc., which provides coordinated, collaborative, high quality health care to disadvantaged and at-risk populations.  The Our Health model provides ‘one stop shopping’ for low income, uninsured and underinsured patients.  Started in 1999, Our Health links 29 agencies together.  The result is astounding – this network serves 15,000 people annually.

The full list of award recipients, including the 30 Leadership Award winners, is available on the AMA Foundation web site.
