Many communities have joined the “Walk with a Doc” effort that began in Ohio or have developed their own program.  The basic idea is to have specific times and dates set for groups to meet, listen to a brief health talk, and then walk together for at least 30 minutes.  Walkers are encouraged to continue to walk on their own a minimum of 3 times per week.  For many attendees, these group walks were the start of a regular program of exercise. http://www.walkwithadoc.org

ChooseMyPlate.gov provides practical information to individuals, health professionals, nutrition educators, and the food industry to help consumers build healthier diets with resources and tools for dietary assessment, nutrition education, and other user-friendly nutrition information. As Americans are experiencing epidemic rates of overweight and obesity, the online resources and tools can empower people to make healthier food choices for themselves, their families, and their children. http://www.choosemyplate.gov/

National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. http://www.eatright.org/nnm/#.UufGiLROncs
