Stop America’s Violence Everywhere (SAVE)

The SAVE initiative to “Stop America’s Violence Everywhere” was launched by the AMA Alliance in June 1995. Alliances across the country recognized the toll that violence was taking in their communities. The national organization responded with the largest health promotion project undertaken by our membership. Over 700 anti-violence programs covering a broad spectrum of activities have been implemented by county and state alliances.

Just as relevant today, the SAVE message continues to focus attention on this serious and preventable social and public health issue. The second Wednesday of each October is the AMA Alliance’s observance of SAVE Today. It coincides with the national Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day

Many local alliances use SAVE Today to work with schools to distribute our children’s activity booklets. Other activities include providing support for domestic violence shelters, mentoring programs for the prevention of child abuse, physician education on domestic violence, distribution of teen and adult safety cards, and mental health screenings at health fairs and schools.

A major component of SAVE is the elementary age hands-on children’s activity books. From “Hands Are Not For Hitting” (placemats & books), “I Can Choose”, and “You Don’t have to be Bullied” these materials have reached millions of children across the country. Click here to order.

The statistics are sobering. No one is immune to violence. Violence affects all age groups, can leave permanent physical and emotional scars, and destroys families and communities. Use the resource links below for additional information and statistics
